FOMH and Neighborhoods Demand Changes to Hwy 97 Plans

Friends of Montgomery Hills, Inc., in conjunction with several Montgomery Hills neighborhoods, has sent a letter to the Maryland State Highway Administration expressing serious concerns with the current version of the MD 97/Georgia Avenue – Montgomery Hills safety and accessibility project plan developed by the State Highway Administration (SHA) and presented at a public meeting on July 12, 2023.

In summary, our organizations are concerned that the current project plan will not achieve the objectives of making Montgomery Hills, as a whole, safer, more walkable, and more bikeable. In fact, some of the plan’s proposed improvements, while ostensibly designed to make traveling on Georgia Ave safer, will significantly impair the safety of drivers, walkers, and bikers on the surrounding neighborhood roads.

FOMH has proposed that SHA consider certain changes to the plan, primarily around changing proposed left and right turn restrictions at key intersections. The full FOMH letter is below.
